Get the lowdown on who we are, what Edge of Play is and why we created it!
We are Jack and James, two grassroots coaches and friends since school days. We know the challenges grassroots coaches face, so left our old careers in teaching and IT to create www.edgeofplay.com - a website to help fellow coaches deliver engaging, developmental and easy to follow training sessions for their teams.

We wouldn’t have put so much time and effort into creating Edge of Play if we didn’t believe it could make a positive difference to peoples’ lives!

Through a shared love of the game, a volunteer coach can be the role model so many young people need to guide them to their potential – not only as footballers, but as people too. With their capacity to positively influence and inspire, the role of a coach has never been more important – but who is helping the volunteer coach?
Coaches are passionate about the game. They want to share this passion and pass it on to others. They love working in a team and being around people – and yet it can be a lonely role with no coaching community to turn to. They are creative people, but as volunteers, perhaps with day jobs and families, they sometimes lack the time or resources to prepare for their sessions. Though often rewarding, it can sometimes feel like a thankless task for them as much of their guidance will only be fully appreciated many years later.
That’s why we feel that the role of the coach is not only a noble one, but also a crucial one. Their dedication to helping others deserves recognition and that’s why we have created something for every coach out there: something to support them, give them a voice and promote the incredible work they are doing.
When you consider societal issues such as rises in child obesity and mental health concerns, over reliance on social media and smart phones, and the lack of funding for youth services, you realise just how important it is that we keep young people involved in organised sport. That’s where we believe we can help - by empowering coaches with the necessary support and resources. This in turn can then capture the imagination of their players and keep them involved in the game for the rest of their lives.
Through initial investment we managed to create a free website with hundreds of coaching videos, forums & resources that coaches of all levels and backgrounds, all around the world, can access and engage with. In a short space of time we built up a loyal, global community of coaches, but despite our best efforts, we have not been able to secure the necessary financial support from anyone in the pro game to keep our website free for all grassroots coaches - as originally intended.
We are looking for people or companies who share in our belief that sport can have a positive impact on young peoples’ lives and society as a whole. If you believe in our vision of a free resource for a global community of coaches and want to be a part of it – we’d love to hear from you! Contact jack.norbury@edgeofplay.com for more information.
For the last 3 years we have built up a loyal subscriber base of coaches from all around the world. Subscribers are drawn to our practical and easy to follow videos, allowing coaches of all levels to deliver sessions their players will love!
We provide hundreds of football coaching videos across Technical; Tactical; Small-Sided Games; Physical and Coach Support Sections.
